CPR, AED & First Aid Classes.

Only 32% of cardiac arrest victims receive CPR from a bystander.  Performing CPR immediately after a sudden cardiac arrest can double or triple a victim’s chance of survival.

The Arcata Firefighters Volunteer Association (AVFA) offers cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), automated external defibrillator (AED), and First-Aid classes for lay rescuers.  In these classes, students learn how to recognize the signs of a cardiac emergency, and how to sustain life with Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation until emergency medical help can arrive.  This is a skill anyone in the community can learn.

The first three classes are intended for the lay rescuer.  These is NOT suitable for those needing Professional Rescuer or Health Professional CPR.

We are now offering BLS for the healthcare provider, these classes are suitable for professional rescuers or medical professionals to re-certify.

Arcata Fire District has 4 classes available:

1. Adult, Child & Infant CPR/AED (Care Plus CPR)

   • Fourth Thursday of each month​

2. Adult CPR/AED & First Aid (Basic Plus CPR)

   • Fourth Saturday of each month​

3. Adult, Child & Infant CPR/AED with First Aid (Premium Plus CPR)

4. Basic Life Support for the Healthcare Provider​ (BLS)

Additional class dates can be scheduled if you are registering a group. Additionally, AVFD may be able to come to your place of business to instruct upon request.

COST:​

• Care Plus - Adult, Child & Infant CPR/AED: $40.00

• Basic Plus - Adult CPR & First Aid: $65.00

• Premium Plus - Adult, Child & Infant CPR/AED with First Aid: $75.00

• BLS - Basic Life Support for the Healthcare Provider​: $50.00

• Payment is required upon arrival to class. Cash or check payable to Arcata Volunteer Firefighters Association will be accepted.

Classes will be held in the Classroom at the Arcata Station: 631 9th Street, Arcata, CA 95521

Classes may be cancelled and/or rescheduled if the class size is not adequate for instruction.
